I have the following queries related to ESI leaves:

a) How many ESI leaves can be availed by an employee in a calendar year?
b) What are the eligibility criteria to avail ESI leaves?
c) Could you please provide information on the payroll processing for ESI leaves?

Dear member, an insured person can avail Sickness Benefit (SB) under the ESI Act, 1948, and rules/regulations framed thereunder for a maximum period of 91 days in 2 benefit periods (one year) provided he/she is eligible for the same. However, for long-term diseases (ESB cases), the terms and conditions and period of entitlement are separate.
