ESI Deductions for Couples: Should Both Partners Contribute Separately?

Flutech
Please let us know if self and spouse fall under the ESI Act. Is it required to deduct from both or either one? In our case, the spouse is working with another organization.

Kindly advise if both should contribute for the same purpose.

Yes, you both will be separate insured persons. The dependents of both can be different, and they too will receive benefits.

Hi,

As stated by Mr. Shrikant, both will have to contribute to the ESIC as only dependents are covered under ESIC. In your case, both of you are independently working; thus, neither of you is dependent on the other.

Husband will have independent ESI Insurance #, Wife will have independent Insurance # Both Husband & Wife earn salary independently. Consequently, ESI Contribution is payable based on the salary earned.
