Navigating Career Moves Abroad: Can I Find HR Jobs in South Africa or Malaysia?

Dear Seniors,

I am getting married in the month of Feb '08, and soon after in March '08, my husband is going for an onsite project for a year. So, staying alone here is not possible. However, leaving a job where I am most comfortable may cause me problems when I come back.

Kindly suggest, is there a possibility that I can work in other countries so that my experience would be counted, and at the same time, I will feel comfortable? If yes, what are the ways I can find jobs out there? Mostly, we will be in South Africa or in Malaysia.

Seniors, please help to guide as this is the only time I can decide whether to leave my company or to continue.

I do not have any idea of getting a job in South Africa, but I do have ideas about Malaysia. It is a bit easier in Malaysia provided you have strong HR-Generalistic experience. There are good companies that really maintain a corporate culture, and working with them is truly awesome and enjoyable. I strongly recommend it. However, you may want to wait until you get a feel for the country and the people's way of living.

You can apply through job portals. Just search on Google for HR jobs in Malaysia, and you will definitely come across a lot of job websites in Malaysia. Also, do check online for the work permit process, eligibility criteria, and other related information.

My suggestion is, don't quit right away. Go on leave even though there is a loss of pay. Check the environment over there. If nothing clicks, you can always come back.

The best option people are exploring now is a B Visa, where one can stay for two months. Your job is to make contact, and family life will also be fulfilled.

Payal, for HR jobs, companies often prefer local candidates, but you can still secure HR positions in other countries if you possess any of the following skills:

1) Extensive experience in Recruitment and Talent Acquisition.
2) Experience in SAP-HR, PeopleSoft, Oracle HRMS.
3) Experience in Training and Development or Teaching.
4) Experience in Compensation and Benefits.

I have around 4 years of experience in recruitment and even in core HR. I am worried if an experience letter from companies can be considered, or if just receiving a relieving letter from the last employer will help me secure a new opportunity.

Regarding your experience, anyway they will do reference check so “experience” letter will be of no use. But yes, you need to carry relieving letter.
