Karnataka Labour Welfare Fund Amendments

You may be aware of this, but I thought I would share: The Karnataka Labour Welfare Fund (Amendments) Bill, 2017, has come into effect on April 6, 2017.

Previous Contribution Rates

Until 2016, the Labour Welfare Fund contribution was paid at Rs. 6:12:6.

New Contribution Requirements

With this amendment, effective from 2017, all establishments, including those registered under the Shops and Establishments Act, must contribute to the Labour Welfare Fund in the ratio of Rs. 20:40 on or before January 15 of each succeeding year. For example, for the year ending on December 31, 2017, the contribution must be made on or before January 15, 2018.

In this contribution, Rs. 20 is the employee's contribution, and Rs. 40 is the employer's contribution for the total number of employees working under the employer.

Hello Mr. Gubbi,

I have a small query pertaining to Labour welfare:

1. How will the labor claim this fund?
2. It is seen most of the time that laborers are not aware of the fund. Is there any law which states that the employer should make the laborers aware of this fund?
3. What are the benefits under the labor welfare fund?

Dear sir, please provide me with insight.

Thank you.

Regards,
Smita
