Is a 1000 Rupee Daily Meal Allowance Enough for Business Travel in India?

We have a staff in New Delhi who is required to fly to Hyderabad occasionally. The staff will continue to receive his monthly paycheck without interruption. The company will pay for the hotel, air tickets, and taxi. Could you please inform me about the common practice in India regarding a daily meal allowance? Is a daily allowance of 1000 rupees sufficient for a reasonable breakfast, lunch, and dinner?

Though it is a case of one employee, you should have a category-wise travel policy, as suggested. The designation/responsibility of the employee is important to decide the reimbursement limit for food. Rs. 1000 should be okay, provided he is not required to dine with others. Quite a few hotels provide complimentary breakfast. The amount should be okay for an employee who is not very senior.

Thank you, Shrikant. We provide an equivalent of 2300 INR per diem. His monthly salary is unaffected. The engineer is claiming that this amount is highly insufficient. We only have one such staff in India, and we do not wish for him to suffer unnecessary hardship. However, we have conducted an independent survey with other engineers from India, and one of them informed me that 700 INR is sufficient for a day's meals. I would like to hear from industry experts in India.
