Dear Experts,

Please suggest to me, is there any contribution applicable from the employer for professional tax, and is it mandatory? If so, please provide me with the slab details state-wise.

Hi,

In case an organization is registered under the PT Act, then it is a statutory/mandatory deduction from the employee's salary. Otherwise, there is a penalty if an organization is not registered under PT. The deduction amount depends on the state. Please find attached the state-wise PT slab.

Thank you.

Dear Deepak,

The amount of professional tax is supposed to be deducted only from employees' salaries and remitted to the respective authority. Employers are not required to make any contributions towards the professional tax deducted from employees.

Thank you.

Hi,

In my payslip, there is no professional tax deduction. Does this mean that I need to pay it individually, or is it taken care of by my employer? Please help.
