Worried About Missing Promotion Documents? How It Could Affect Your Job Switch and Career Growth

SahilJ21
Hi, I have been working at a mid-sized organization since January 2015. I was hired as a Business Development Manager, which required me to take care of sales and handle a team as well. However, as it is a small organization and a proper documentation process was never established, I only received an appointment letter that mentioned my sales compensation structure and not the compensation structure as a team lead. Additionally, I have been promoted to the position of Branch Head for the last six months, but I do not have any documentary proof of this.

Impact of Missing Documentation on Career Growth

Now, I am planning to switch jobs. Will the absence of these documents impact my future growth? If yes, what could be the repercussions? I am uncomfortable asking for these documents because it may raise questions in my current employer's mind about why I suddenly need them and create doubts that I am planning to leave. Please guide.

Yes, you are right. The absence of proper documentation will create doubt in an employer's mind at the time of hiring and will create problems for you. Also, at the time of joining, these are the basic requirements by organizations normally. Thus, you need to have some written proof.

You have not mentioned about contents mentioned in Payslips or Form 16. I am surprised by your statement that you are not comfortable asking for documents with your employer even after 6 months. On the contrary, you are comfortable asking us for solutions. Please change your mindset. Nobody will believe your oral statement. Small or big organization does not matter; what matters is documentation.
