In Production Unit, Is There Compulsory Public Holiday?

Please suggest to me whether in the production unit, public holidays are compulsory, or if we can seek approval from the Factory Inspector. Is there any written documentation in labor laws or elsewhere that addresses this issue? Kindly provide your suggestions as soon as possible.

There are many compulsory holidays mentioned in various labor laws. The first one is the weekly holiday, national holidays, etc. Besides these, leave provisions exist in the concerned acts. So, first, prepare standing orders for your organization as basic rules to run the organization smoothly.

Please clarify what you mean by "Compulsory Public Holiday." Are you referring to the private or public sector?

Please refer to The Factories Act, 1948, and the rules thereunder, as well as The Shops and Commercial Establishments Act to understand the weekly holiday/weekly off regulations.

Additionally, refer to the National Festival Holidays Act and the rules thereunder to learn about NH&FH/paid holidays.

Lastly, refer to Section 135B of the Representation of People Act to understand the declaration of holidays during elections.
