Leave Policy Dilemma: Should CL Balance Be Carried Forward to Sick Leave?

hrgrameensahara@gmail.com
Dear Sir,

Greetings! I am working in a Non-Banking Financial Company. Our company provides 12 days of CL and 8 days of EL in a calendar year. At the year-end, if the CL balance remains, it will carry forward to the sick leave account for the next year. Therefore, I need your suggestion regarding this policy. Can this policy be developed?

Thank you.

Casual Leave

Casual Leave (CL) is granted for unforeseen situations where you need to take one or two days off to attend to personal matters, not for vacation. Typically, companies limit casual leave to a maximum of 3 days per month. In such cases, you must obtain permission in advance.

Casual Leave can be taken for a minimum of 0.5 days to a maximum of 3 days. If you need more than 3 days, it should be taken as Earned/Privileged Leave. If you plan to take 3 days together, you need to apply beforehand.

As per the rules under The Shops and Establishment Act, you are entitled to 6 days of Casual Leave.

There are no carry-forwards for casual leave. At the end of the year, any unused Casual Leaves will lapse automatically.

Casual leave is not encashable. At the end of the year, unused Casual Leaves lapse automatically.

Casual Leave cannot be appended with Earned/Privileged Leave or Sick Leave.

For new joiners or those who have resigned, Casual Leaves are on a pro-rata basis. If you join in the middle of the year, say on July 1, your casual leave will be halved (pro-rated) from the date you start employment through December 31 of that calendar year.
