Preparing 2008's Holiday List: What Are the Legal Requirements for Paid Holidays?

yamini_tekade
Hi,

I have to prepare the paid holiday list for 2008. Until this year, we had been giving 4 public holidays and 4 festival holidays. Now I have a query: is there any statutory norm on the minimum and maximum holidays to be given? Which is the Act that describes the norms?

Hi Guys! My question is the same as Yamini's. I just wanted to know if there is a minimum number of days to be given as holidays for the year 2008 as per the government. If yes, is it 9 days mandatory for the entire year? Kindly revert ASAP.

Warm Regards, Aarti

Hi Seema,

I need to know what is the maximum number of public holidays for Maharashtra under the Shops & Establishment Act. Is it 8 or 9 days in a year?

I am also new in this field, but I would like to share what I know. There are a total of 14 holidays permitted in a year in Maharashtra. Out of these, 3 are national holidays, namely, 26th Jan, 15th Aug, and 2nd Oct. One holiday is optional, i.e., Anant Chaturdashi and Bakri Id. You can choose one of them depending on your employees' wishes. The other 10 holidays are as per government holidays. I hope this information will help you. Thank you.
