Can I Extend an Employee's Probation Due to Illness? Seeking Advice and Format

kavitsinghmba
Hi Everyone,

I am working in an IT company. We generally have a probation period of 3 months. One of the employees in my company has been absent due to illness for the entire third month. So, I wanted to know if I can extend his probation period for another month. If yes, please provide me with a format to do so.

Please reply ASAP.

Kavita,

You can quote relevant clauses supporting your decision from your HR Manual and write a letter to the employee, extending his probation term. I think it should be plain vanilla. Best wishes!

Kavita,

As per your appointment terms, a 3-month probation period is applicable. You can issue a letter to employees and, based on their reply, proceed with their confirmation. Additionally, you should obtain comments from their appraiser or Head of Department for the extension of their probation for another 3 months.

Thanks,
Parag
