Confused About ESIC Eligibility and Health Insurance Deductions – Can Anyone Clarify?

Shraddha Shetty
Hi, I have recently joined an MNC as an HR Executive, and I came to know that I am not covered by ESIC as per the updated norms because my salary exceeds 21k. The company has provided health insurance, but the premium is deducted from my salary. So, I am unsure if ESIC is applicable in my case. I just want to clarify this matter, nothing else.

It is not applicable unless it was mentioned in your terms of appointment/salary details or without your subsequent consent.

It is compulsory to opt for health insurance, even if you have personal insurance. If you do not want to use the company's health insurance benefits, you can inquire about adding that amount to your net salary.
Apex Management
In case the premium is being borne by you, then it is entirely up to your discretion whether to opt in or not.

Hi Shraddha,

Greetings of the day!!!

Please clarify: Is the company deducting the Group health insurance amount from your CTC or the insurance amount from your gross salary? If it's from the CTC, then you cannot do anything as it's from the CTC.

Hello Ashish,

It's a group health insurance amount. Initially, in the salary breakup, a certain amount is shown as a deduction for ESIC. However, after clarifying the new norms of ESIC, they added that amount to my take-home pay. Later, they decided to deduct the insurance amount from that. This is why I am a bit confused about it.
