Facing Workplace Bullying: How Can I Handle My Manager's Unfair Treatment?

Seeking Guidance on Workplace Challenges

My reporting manager joined my team 10 months ago. From day one, he started comparing team members' salaries and teasing me about my salary and Key Result Areas (KRA) allocation, which he feels is unbalanced. Consequently, he has assigned additional tasks beyond my KRA and has harassed me by underrating my performance in my mid-year review.

Furthermore, he downsized my team members who report to me, began verbally abusing me, and challenged me to replace them with his favorite colleagues. He also lodged false complaints about my behavior and interactions with other teams, which he cannot substantiate and were proven false.

Subsequently, he became increasingly aggressive and is now routing complaints through HR, threatening me severely through HR to request a voluntary transfer or resign from my job. Otherwise, I will be rated as an underperformer, potentially harming my career prospects.

Despite my efforts to document all correspondence and explain the situations to my Head of Department (HOD), he seems disinterested in these conversations and is urging me to collaborate with the team.

Therefore, I seek guidance on how to navigate this situation to receive a fair performance rating and be able to concentrate on and fulfill my tasks to the best of my ability.

I kindly request your guidance in overcoming this challenging situation.

More than legal advice, you need management skills to tackle the situation, I believe. From a legal point of view, try to gather as much evidence as possible to prove that the concerned person is forcing you to transfer or resign. Without proof, you will not be able to proceed legally. Harassment is a broad term, and not every act you dislike can be treated as harassment under the law. Therefore, it is better to have evidence before taking any steps.

Apart from what Mr. Ritesh has advised, would you like to know if you have ever approached your HR with your grievance?

Instead of me approaching HR, HR approached me through this wrongful complaint and threatened to underrate me as a low performer. Hence, I have expressed my willingness to transfer and am currently awaiting further action.
