Misplaced Job Documents: How Can I Reassure My New Employer About My Experience?

I'm having three years of total experience and have worked for two companies; my current company is the second one. I've received another offer now, but the issue is I've misplaced the offer letter and relieving letter from my first job. How can I convince the current employer (new job HR) regarding the papers from my first job? I've already approached my first company's HR, but they are not responding. I have one and a half years of experience in that company. What should I do? How can I convince the new employer?

1. Visit your old employer and request the documents.

2. If this does not work and you were paid by cheque, obtain records from the bank. Clearly state that you do not have other documents such as a relieving letter, offer letter, or appointment letter, but you have proof of payment.

Steps to Validate Your Previous Employment

1. Speak to a few colleagues who were good friends to validate that you were employed there.

2. Look into your personal mailbox if you did not copy your official emails at all. You would definitely find something.

3. Form 16, 26AS statement, PF passbook, and Bank Statement could be other resources for you.

I do not think it is impossible to have access to a single document to prove that you worked in such an organization. In the interim, you can ask for a conditional offer letter stating that within a certain period, you would provide concrete information to your new employer, failing which they reserve the right to terminate you. I am sure if you have an edge over your competitors and the new employer liked you, they should agree to your request. Best wishes!
