Am I Eligible for ESI Maternity Benefits as a Permanent Employee?

esther mariyam
I am working in a company since June 2016. In October 2016, I became a permanent employee and received an e-pehachan card from the company. Now, I am six months pregnant, and my expected date of delivery is June 5th. I would like to know if I am eligible for maternity benefits from the ESI. Can you please clarify my doubts?

Eligibility for Maternity Benefits under the ESI Act

There are conditions for eligibility to receive Maternity Benefit (MB) under the ESI Act, 1948, and the rules/regulations framed thereunder. In addition, there are periods called the contribution period and the corresponding benefit period, which regulate the entitlement of insured persons for benefits under the said Act. Therefore, I suggest you contact the appropriate Branch Office of ESIC to which you are attached to confirm your eligibility to receive MB under the said Act. To obtain the necessary medical certification, you can also contact the ESI dispensary to which you are attached. The ESIC Branch Office will pay the benefit only after receiving the necessary medical certification from the said ESIS dispensary.

Best wishes,
