Is It Fair to Delay Salaries Until Employees Submit Degree Certificates? How to Address This Issue

Vivek ss
Hi, my friend joined a company with a staff strength of 20 two months ago, but they have not yet credited his second-month salary. When he inquired about the salary, they mentioned that it would be credited after he submits his degree mark sheet. Additionally, they are not showing proper respect towards the employees, and this situation is being faced by all employees.

During the interview and joining process, they did not disclose any of these conditions. Please advise on how to address this problem.

Retention of Original Documents by Employers

No employer can keep any original documents (mark sheets, pass certificates, etc.) of an employee in their custody for any purpose. If the company requires verification, they can do so in your presence and keep a photocopy of it in their custody. However, many companies still retain original documents to hold onto employees in case of resignation or with the intention to harass them if they make any demands.

At no cost are you required to deposit any original documents with the company. Even if the company claims they will verify the original and return it within a couple of days, make sure to get a written acknowledgment stating that the company received the original mark sheet on [date] for the purpose of verification and will return the mark sheet to you on [date].
