Worried About Past Job Being Exposed Through UAN? Here's What You Need to Know

I had joined an organization a few months back and worked there for 23 days before leaving. They provided me with a salary and a KYC-compliant UAN.

In my current company, where I joined on 19th January, I did not disclose my previous experience and requested them to generate a new UAN.

I understand that when they attempt to generate a new UAN and input the KYC, they will discover that my KYC details are already linked with another UAN, indicating my prior membership with EPF. Will they be able to find out the number unless I disclose it myself? Or will they discover my previous UAN number using the PAN/Aadhar number?

I have reviewed the UAN User Manual for Employers, and the last paragraph states:

"If the employer declares an employee as a fresh new employment and provides Aadhaar/PAN at the time of registration, if the same Aadhaar/PAN is already seeded with some UAN, the employer will be prompted that this KYC is already seeded with some UAN, and the employer must either provide the UAN or register without KYC. However, after registration, the employer can link the same KYC with the new UAN."

It mentions that "the employer will be prompted that this KYC is already seeded with some UAN." Does this 'some UAN' refer to the UAN number itself? Will it display the UAN number, or will it only indicate that the KYC is already linked with another UAN without specifying the UAN number?

Please advise if anyone has knowledge about this, as I believe I am facing trouble.

With name, DOB, and Aadhaar/PAN, the previous UAN can be collected.

But sir, I understood your point, but to my question - what does it show if the PAN already exists in the database of UAN? Does it show that this KYC is already seeded with another UAN or does it show this KYC is already seeded with 10** (UAN No). Please tell me.

Selecting the member with UAN and leaving the UAN field blank while entering all other data will automatically generate the UAN.

Sir, One more question - How to know which document is used for KYC. The KYC section in my member portal is showing no document whatsoever; however, my UAN card shows KYC: Yes. Even after giving a missed call to the phone number for balance inquiry, I received an SMS stating that no KYC is there. But the UAN card indicates I'm KYC compliant. This issue has been ongoing for the past month. How can I determine which document is being used for KYC?

KYC is seeded but not verified digitally by the employer. If you want to remove that document from the site, ask the past employer to reject that specific KYC. However, from the coming month, it would get upfront seeded, and there would be no role of the employer to attach or detach.

And if it's not digitally verified by the previous employer, as you have mentioned, in that case, even if the new employer conducts the KYC, will they be able to know the UAN?

Understanding UAN Linking and Employee Cooperation

Yes, it will display where it is seeded, though not verified. Unless it gets rejected or canceled by the previous employer, the employee cannot link a new UAN, and hence, the employee cannot be added to EPF.

It is the employee benefit program. If an employee does not cooperate, the employer will leave it pending until the employee clears the disputes.

If the employee offers his old UAN, what is the problem? If there is any missing data, the new employer can fill that in as well. I think it would be better for both the employer and employee not to hide things.
