Young HR Recruiter Seeking Creative Ways to Showcase Skills and Impress at Work

LakshmiJohn
Hey folks,

I am a young HR recruiter. Please advise me on the ways to exhibit my skills to impress my boss and peers. Apart from initiating L&D activities and employee engagement activities, are there any other ways to prove my skills? For example, writing articles and preparing office magazines.

By the way, I am good at writing poems and giving presentations.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Regards,

The Challenges of Being an HR Professional

You seem to be a fresher. Through years of experience, I have learned that an HR staff member can become unpopular in an organization because their ambitions to grow fast make them work more in favor of the employer and pay less attention to the lower-level staff and their problems. In fact, the lower-level staff expect HR to act as their voice, while management desires HR to turn any situation to their benefit. I don't know about others, but I have faced this throughout my career.

What actually happens is the bottom line is never satisfied, no matter what additional perks are added to improve their living conditions. It is also challenging to make them understand that a company needs to earn more to further enhance remuneration, perks, and other indirect benefits for the staff. Additionally, you would notice that dissatisfaction at the bottom slows down the production process or introduces snags, deteriorating product quality. The formation of workers/staff unions is another part of the same story that can also jeopardize the smooth functioning of an organization.

I thus feel that the task of "Grievance Handling" leading to an amicable settlement could make an HR professional immensely popular at the lower level and, at the same time, impress management by ensuring continuity in the production process.

By the way, kindly note that impressing people can never help to a great extent compared to being more skillful and smart. All you need to do is find ways to exhibit your skill sets instead of seeking validation from others. Once people recognize your proficiency in something, it will undoubtedly capture their attention.
