Feeling Stuck: How to Handle an Employer Refusing to Issue Your Experience Certificate?

I am sharing what recently happened to me. I worked at a software company for 7-8 months and faced some performance-related issues with my employer. Despite my efforts to meet their expectations, I was informed by my co-workers that I was performing well for a starter. After six months, I anticipated a salary raise, but it didn't happen. In my company, freshers were receiving higher salaries. My co-workers, who often sought my help to complete their tasks, were also earning more than me. After a discussion, I received an increment, but I heard from someone that they wanted me to leave. They couldn't say it directly, so they were creating a situation for me to quit on my own.

My colleagues supported me with these performance-related issues. Once, HR told me that I had a relationship with a married colleague and needed to keep such matters out of the office because people were complaining. I asked who was complaining and for what reason, but she responded with mean comments. I requested her to include the person in question if there was any relationship, but she retorted, "Don't teach me my work." This led to an argument, and I left the office. The next day, I received a call from my boss's wife, the people manager, who said HR was inexperienced and mishandled the situation, but I was irresponsible for leaving without notice. She asked me to come to the office for a discussion.

The following day, HR approached me again, saying people were complaining about me. When I asked for names, she refused to disclose them and criticized my behavior during our argument. Two days later, I overheard her telling the colleague that he had nothing to do with the incident and that she only wanted to inform me. I confronted her, which led to another argument. We went to the boss, who sided with her. Upset, I resigned the next day, refusing to complete the notice period.

I sent my resignation via email but received no response for a week. When I called my boss, he promised a reply in a day. Three days later, I got an email from my boss's wife stating, "Please don't follow up because we cannot provide any letters as you didn't complete the notice period." Despite my requests, they are not assisting me. I left because they were testing my self-respect, but I need my certificate. I am unsure of what to do.

Dear Gurpreetji,

An employee cannot leave the organization as per their own whims and fancies. For every problem, there are methods to resolve it. Leaving the organization in a haphazard way is not a professional approach. The employment terms have to be adhered to, and if the notice period is mentioned in your appointment letter, you have to fulfill the terms. Only then will they cooperate with you.
