Struggling to Reopen My Old PF Account After Years: How Can I Resolve This Before Joining a New Job?

Shiba Kumar
Dear Members,

I worked in a company in Bangalore from 2012 to 2013. After my resignation, I started my journey in business and have not been employed elsewhere. At the time of resignation, I forgot to close my PF account. However, I have the withdrawal documents in my mailbox sent from the employer. Additionally, I do not know my PF number and have not applied for a UAN.

Now, I am about to join a new firm as an employee. I would like to continue with my old PF account but am unable to contact the concerned persons at my previous employer to address my issue.

Kindly suggest what I should do now or what steps need to be taken.

Thank you.

The basic requirement is your old EPF member ID to proceed further. Collect the same, and then the members can guide you further.

You left the services after July 2016 or before? If after, then you need to have a UAN number. If before, it is not required. You should contact your previous employer first, either by phone/email or by going to the head office of the previous employer, and contact the HR personnel regarding the issue.

PF Withdrawal vs. Transfer

PF withdrawal is a better option than transfer, so go and meet your previous employer for the withdrawal process. One thing I would also like to share is that employees do not have the power to start or close a PF account because it is completely the employer's responsibility.
