Worried About Name Spelling Error Affecting Your PF Transfer? Here's How to Fix It

Name Discrepancy in PF Account Transfer

I was in a company for over 2 years before joining my current company 1.5 years ago. During the process of transferring funds from my PF account, I discovered a spelling mistake in my first name in the previous company's records. Since my previous company did not provide me with my remaining payment or the relieving letter, I doubt they will assist me in rectifying this error.

I am concerned about any potential issues that may arise when transferring funds from my previous PF account to my current one due to the difference in spelling. If such a discrepancy poses a problem, I would like to know the necessary steps to resolve it in my situation.

In my last PF Account, my name was spelled as "Abhijit," whereas in my current PF Account, it is spelled as "Abhijeet."

I would appreciate any guidance on how to ensure a smooth transfer process.

Thanks in advance,

Abhijeet

Seeding Your UAN with the Current Employer

Seed your old UAN with the current employer. It will get auto-corrected after seeding and KYC compliance. At the time of seeding by the present employer, the EPFO portal asks to confirm that Abhijit and Abhijeet are the same person, and the present employer has to confirm the same.

Once the UAN is seeded, ask your present employer to upload and approve the KYC (Aadhar/Bank/PAN) and then apply for a transfer. As both accounts belong to the same UAN, a name spelling mistake does not bar the EPFO from raising a dispute.

Resolving Provident Fund Name Discrepancies

This is one of the most common problems in the provident fund. The PF department has issued a circular on this issue. Firstly, you need your employer's signature on the PF name rectification form. Therefore, this process cannot be done by you alone.

Secondly, the attached form should be filled and signed by you, along with the employer's signature and company seal. If your employer does not cooperate, you can file a complaint with your concerned PF enforcement officer. Generally, employers cooperate in this regard.

Dear Labour Law Index,

I appreciate the information you have shared, but can it be done through my current employer or without involving the assistance of my previous employer or directly through the PF office?

Please guide me, as I am certain that my last employer will not be willing to assist me.

Dear Glidor,

I am trying to seed my UAN with the current employee, with the corrected name. Will it be enough to transfer the funds?

Thank you.

If bank details and PAN/Aadhar are verified in the previous EPFO UAN, then it will auto-click, provided the employee provides the print copy of KYC seeded in their UAN to the present employer (pending attestation does not work). After confirming the KYC details, if it matches with EPFO, then Form 13 is auto-clicked and the transfer is executed in 3 weeks.

However, if KYC is not seeded, then the employee can do it with this site [url=http://oeoea.epfoservices.com/UANDEDUP/]One Employee One PF[/].

Respected sir,

Please provide me with the format for rectifying a spelling mistake in EPF. Could you also share a sample letter for correcting a spelling error?

Thank you.
