Struggling with a Sales Manager's Extended Sick Leave: Can I Consult a Doctor for Insight?

senthilrsm
Hi,

Sir, my subordinate is not performing his duties as expected. Whenever we ask questions, he applies for sick leave. Initially, he applied for two days but then extended it by two more days. He joined our team six months ago and holds the position of an area sales manager. He manages a team of four members.

I am considering seeking advice from doctors regarding his reason for this prolonged absence. Your urgent reply would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks and regards

Please ask for the records for your verification. You can also send a warning email or letter regarding his performance as per your company's norms.

Also, sir, if you have the latest HR software, you can track his behavior in the HR portal.

Hi Senthil,

Generally, for more than 2 days, many companies would ask for a medical report. You can do that. Since he joined 6 months ago, you can speak with his supervisor/manager and issue a written warning letter or put him on a PIP program. Also, speak with his direct reports and gather feedback on his performance and team player skills. Be aware that he might also be on the lookout during this period.

Courts have declared that issuing a warning letter to an employee is a stigma. As such, it should precede a legal domestic enquiry.
