Feeling Stuck in My HR Role: How Can I Grow Without Job Hopping?

swati_chaubey
I am working as a Senior HR Executive at a company in Delhi, and I have 7 months of experience in HR. I started my career as an HR Executive in April 2016 after completing my PGDM in HR. I left my first job early as they didn't pay me on time. Currently, I am associated with a good company as a Senior HR Executive. In my first job, I was responsible for handling the entire HR Department, including payroll, attendance, grievances, employee engagement activities, induction, joining and exit formalities, releasing offer letters, and all other tasks, as I was the only HR there. Now, I want to pursue a career in a Generalist profile only.

In my current company, I am the only HR and also involved in a generalist role, but I am not responsible for managing salary, attendance, or grievances as in my previous job. Every task I do here requires permission from my senior, and I am not getting much exposure. What should I do to explore HR, learn new things, and how should I grow, as I prefer not to change jobs too frequently?

Kindly suggest to me what I should keep studying or doing to excel in my career in an HR Generalist profile. I am also preparing for some government HR jobs like DMRC, HPCL, ONGC, etc.

Mahr
Swati,

Are you concerned that you are not a part of the entire operations or that you are not at liberty to make decisions freely? You have just started your career. Patience is a crucial trait for an HR professional. Firstly, understand your daily responsibilities. You do not need to take additional courses to secure a good job. Focus on mastering your current role, and opportunities will come your way. Good luck!
