I want to inquire about the notification declared by Mr. Arun Jaitley on minimum wages. Does this affect the manufacturing industry? What will be the impact?

Minimum Wage Hike for Unskilled Laborers 'Historic': Arun Jaitley

Finance Minister Arun Jaitley today said the "historic hike" in minimum wages to Rs 350/day is a step forward in transforming India and labor reforms. To appease trade unions, the government yesterday announced a 42 percent increase in the minimum wages for unskilled non-agricultural workers to Rs 350 per day from the current Rs 246. Also, government employees will be paid a wage bonus as per revised norms for 2014-15 and 2015-16, a move that will entail a payout of Rs 1,920 crore.

"Historic hike in minimum wages for unskilled non-agricultural workers to Rs 350/day is a step forward in transforming India and labor reforms," Jaitley tweeted. The decision to pay a bonus for years 2014-15 and 2015-16 on revised norms reiterates the government's "commitment to work for the benefit of workers."

I think the government makes a fool of us. Before the strike, the government of India sent several messages to implement the minimum wage of Rs. 350. However, after the strike, it returned to the old practice and only increased the amount by a very small margin. We do not expect the same.

Minimum wage hike for unskilled labourers 'historic': Arun Jaitley. The minimum wage for unskilled non-agricultural workers is set to increase to Rs 350 per day from the current Rs 246, as stated by Arun Jaitley. However, the revised minimum wage is Rs. 250/-. How can we determine whether the minimum wage is 250 or 350? Can anyone provide clarification on this matter?

Rs. 350 notification stands for a direct employee of the central government or any PSU. It does not apply to any contractor's worker.

Thank you.

Minimum wages for an unskilled worker are Rs. 350 per day as per the instruction of the Prime Minister and are to be followed by the State Government as well for contract labor, as per the notification given by the Labor Minister of the Central Government long back.

However, why is the State Government not following the instructions of the Central Government notification for a 40% hike in minimum wages for contract labor, i.e., Rs. 350 per day for unskilled contract labor?

Thanks
