Confused About Missing PF Interest: Should I Blame My Employer or EPFO?

After 6 months, my employer has been depositing all my PF contributions to EPFO. However, for the past 6 months, the interest has not been credited to my PF passbook. In this situation, who is responsible for paying my PF interest - my employer or EPFO? Can I lodge a complaint against my employer?

If your establishment delays in remitting the employees' PF dues to the PFO, then the PFO will issue a notice (after the reconciliation which they generally do at the end of the year) specifying the same with the interest and penalty amount for the delay. The penalty interest is hefty and takes care of the interest which the PFO has to pay to the members.

You should file a grievance online and also send an application with the grievance to your respective PF Office. These days, the PF Officials are quite vigilant and prompt. I am sure they will take necessary action.

Good luck.

EPF interest is credited in April every year for the previous year's contributions (salary of March 15 to Feb 16, EPF return filed from April to March 2016). You can check the same in Form 23... A/C slip.

If the employer has remitted the payment late, then they would get penalized by the department. Employees have to receive their payment and interest without any trouble.

PF Department will pay you the PF interest. They will pay at the end of the financial year, every year. You can't claim it from the employer.

PF Dept will claim the interest and damages separately from the employer for the entire non-payment amount, including the employer contribution. That interest is totally different from the PF interest paid to you by PF Dept.
