Seeking Advice: Should I Wait to Job Hunt for HR Roles or Start Now? Plus, Interview Prep Tips Needed

S Anuradha
Hi seniors, I am looking for a new job. I have experience in the HR field as a recruiter for 1 year and 4 months at Arise Company in Coimbatore. Then, my designation changed to Talent Acquisition Consultant at a software company in Bangalore, where I completed 6 months. In my first company, I successfully closed many deals due to having numerous clients and meeting full targets. However, in my current role, there are only two clients, resulting in one or two closures. Simply put, 80% of my activities are core HR tasks, and 20% involve recruitment. Therefore, I have decided to seek a job that focuses on HR core activities, specifically within an MNC. I have a question regarding my experience. By January 2017, I will have completed 2 years; should I wait until then to look for a new job or start now?

Guidance on Preparing for HR Interviews

I would appreciate it if you could share any HR interview questions, answers, and technical aspects related to recruitment. Please provide me with the necessary links and documents.

Hello Anuradha,

It's great to hear that you're keen on expanding your role in the HR field. When it comes to your timing for a job switch, it depends on your readiness and the opportunities available. You can start applying now, and if you get an offer that aligns with your career goals, you can consider making the move.

Here are some commonly asked HR interview questions and answers that might help you in your preparation:

1. **Can you tell me a little about yourself?**
This is a classic ice-breaker question. You should prepare an answer that gives a brief introduction about yourself, your education, and your professional experience in HR.

2. **Why do you want to work in Human Resources?**
This question is aimed at understanding your motivation to work in this field. A good answer might be about how you enjoy working with people, solving problems, and contributing to a company's culture and performance.

3. **Describe a difficult situation you've faced at work and how you handled it.**
This question is about your problem-solving and conflict-resolution skills. You can share an example where you successfully resolved a workplace conflict or came up with a creative solution for a challenging situation.

4. **How do you handle confidential information?**
In HR, confidentiality is crucial. You should demonstrate your understanding of this by explaining the measures you take to ensure sensitive information stays confidential.

5. **How do you handle a disgruntled employee?**
This question tests your people skills and your ability to de-escalate difficult situations. A good answer might talk about your communication skills, your empathy, and your fairness in dealing with such situations.

6. **What's your experience with HRMS/HRIS systems?**
Most companies use some form of HR software. If you have experience with popular HR systems like Workday, Oracle, or SAP, mention them. If not, say that you're a quick learner when it comes to new technologies.

7. **What's your approach to performance management?**
This question is about ensuring employees are effective in their roles. You could talk about setting clear expectations, providing regular feedback, and working with employees to continuously improve their skills.

8. **What are the most effective recruiting strategies?**
As a recruiter, you would have firsthand experience with this. Discuss the strategies that you've found most effective – whether that's leveraging social media, attending job fairs, or building a strong employer brand.

Remember, the key to a successful interview is preparation. Research the company, review the job description, and think about how your skills and experience make you a good fit for the role.

Good luck with your job search! 🍀👍
