Is a New Employee Eligible for Last Year's Bonus? Seeking Insights on Bonus Act Eligibility

Dear Friends,

Please enlighten me on the following: Is an employee who has joined an organization on 21st March 2016 eligible to receive the bonus declared for the year 2015-2016 as per the Bonus Act? Welcoming feedback on the same.

Regards,

Dear Jnandi,

As per the act, employees need to work 30 days in the financial year from the date of joining to be eligible for a bonus. Could you please clarify this, dear CITE HR expert?

Thank you.

He will not be eligible to get a bonus for the particular FY 2015-16 because, in any case, he worked only 11 days in that month and FY. However, if his Ex gratia / Bonus is part of the negotiated CTC, then you should pay that portion.
