Hi, I am very new to this forum. Let me first introduce myself. My name is Tanvi. I have not been working for the past month. Previously, I worked with reputed job portals in client servicing and operations, accumulating more than 7 years of experience. Now, I am seeking a career change from client relationship to Human Resources. I excel in recruitment, am proficient in using portals, job postings, sourcing, and mailers. However, when I expressed these skills to interviewers, I did not receive any responses.

Seeking Guidance for Career Transition to HR

Can you help me navigate this situation? Currently, I am not enrolled in any courses due to my unemployment status. I hold an MBA degree in marketing. If given the opportunity, I am willing to work at my current salary level because what I value most is gaining exposure, knowledge, and experience to advance my HR career.

Looking for Recommendations

Do you know of any reputable consultants or organizations that can assist me in securing a position in HR? Your advice would be greatly appreciated.

You need to have a clear perception of HR. HR does not mean recruitment alone; it goes far beyond that. The hiring function at the corporate level is not just about going through job portals and downloading CVs. It involves assessing manpower requirements, preparing job profiles, deciding the qualifications, experience, knowledge levels, and skill sets required for each job, and then proceeding with recruitment. Recruitment firms are mostly concerned with the final process.

The Broad Spectrum of HR Functions

Furthermore, HR encompasses a wide spectrum of functions such as policy framing, payroll, training needs assessment, performance management, employee engagement, employee relations, settlements and union negotiations, disciplinary management, conciliation and adjudication, and statutory compliances. You currently have a recruitment profile, which may not encompass the entirety of HR functions.

Exploring Opportunities in Marketing

Considering you have an MBA in marketing, why not explore marketing? Marketing offers various profiles like brand management, business development, business analysis, product design, etc., which can be equally interesting.

Thanks for the reply. But I don't want to join Marketing; the reason behind that is I don't have any experience in that, and secondly, I only get sales profiles. I don't want to move into sales. Is there any HR course that will help me change my profile?

Sales skills are also relevant to the hiring function. You need to function like an HR salesman. You need to sell a company's position to a potential candidate who possesses the kind of talent the company is looking for. Just as a salesman focuses on the unique and differentiating features of a product that can meet a customer's needs, as a recruiter, you need to highlight the features of the company that the candidate is seeking to sell the position to them.

Next time you interview for an HR position in recruitment or hiring, explain to them how your marketing knowledge will be relevant to recruitment. Additionally, you can take a certification course in HR generalist functions or payroll, etc., to enhance your employability in HR roles.
