Hi,

My name is Shrutkirt Nikam, and I work as a recruiter. I am interested in transitioning into an HR role. Will my experience as a recruiter be considered when applying for HR positions?

Thank you.

Transitioning from Recruitment to HR

Recruitment is a part of HR itself. If you are working with any consultancy as a recruiter, you may transition into corporate HR as a recruiter, as many companies prefer candidates from recruitment agencies for HR-Recruiter profiles. Companies in industries such as insurance, BPO, and stockbroking, where mass recruitment occurs, will likely prefer your profile. However, exceptions exist, and other companies may shortlist your profile, but this is subjective and rare.

If you want to enter the HR department for another profile like Training & Development (T&D), Payroll, or Operations (Ops), your current profile will not be of much help. For that, either do a 3-6 months internship in any of the above fields from any company to gain practical experience and an experience letter, and then try for a job. Alternatively, enter the corporate world with a recruitment profile and then try to learn other things alongside from your reporting head and convince them for job rotation. Based on your learning attitude and hard work, you can eventually get the profile you desire.

Hope now you will be able to decide what to do.

For any further suggestions or clarity, you can directly write to me.
