Leaving a Contract Job Early: How to Handle Notice Period and Charges?

Hii_advice
Hi all, Recently, I joined a consultancy for a contract-to-hire position. After working for just four days, I decided to resign from that consultancy because I received a permanent job offer. I also returned the courier client and consultancy ID card to them. I do not require any experience letter or recommendation from them. They have requested that I serve a one-month notice period, but in the offer letter, it was mentioned that if I resign or abscond within 90 days, they are entitled to recover charges incurred by the company for the Bvg verification from my Full and Final (FNF) settlement. What should I do?

Resignation and Recovery of Costs

As per your terms of contract, you can resign. The same terms also state that you must pay the company the costs they have incurred in hiring you. They would adjust this from your four days' salary. If that does not cover the total recovery due from you, they may send you a letter asking you to pay the remaining amount. If this fails, different companies have their own methods to recover, including legal recourse.

You can wait for their letter and respond to it. Do you think you are justified in paying the amount they are asking you to pay?
