Sandwich Leave Dilemma: Does a Half-Day Saturday Make Sunday Count as Leave?

Hi,

I just have a query regarding Sandwich Leave. Suppose an employee is on leave from Monday to Friday, and before that week, Saturday is a working day, and he took a half-day for Saturday. Will Sunday be counted as leave since it is sandwiched between working days? Please clarify my doubt.

No, as you said, the employee was present on Saturday for a half-day. Therefore, Sunday should be counted as a day off, and his leave should start from Monday only. However, if you have included any relevant clause or condition in your company's leave policy, based on that clause, you may make a decision.

For example, a clause such as "Privilege Leave, Casual Leave, and Weekly Off (all three) cannot be combined." If such a clause exists in your company's leave policy, then Saturday should be marked as a half-day absence, Sunday as a day off, and his leave should start from Monday.

Thank you,

In the above case, Sunday will be counted as a week off as the employee has worked on Saturday. In another case, it depends on the policy of the company.
