Salary Payment Delays: What's the Legal Deadline for Wages in a Factory Setting?

deveshch
Dear All,

I am working in a UP-based manufacturing concern registered under the Factory Act. The employee strength is 179; hence, according to the rules, the salary should be paid up to the 7th. However, the company paid the salary between the 18th and 20th. Please tell me what the last date for salary payment is and provide the relevant section for the same.

Regards,
Tarun

Please note that the payment of wages must be disbursed on or before the 7th of the following month, failing which management (Occupier & Manager) can be prosecuted.

You can raise your complaint before the area Labour Inspector for the implementation of the provisions.

Dear PK Sharma,

Can you please let me know the relevant section or clause that states that the salary should be paid on the 7th or before the 7th?

Please refer to the Payment of Wages Act. It specifies the dates of payment of wages. It's a small act, easy to read.

Mr. Tarun,

Please refer to Section 5(a) of the Payment of Wages Act, 1936.
