How Should I Handle Employees Ignoring Safety Shoe Rules in Our Factory?

shail.kul
Good evening all.

We have an Assembly Unit, and I am instructing all staff to wear SAFETY SHOES in the factory premises. However, some individuals are not complying with this rule. Should I take strict action against them? Please suggest or guide me on how to handle this situation. I am waiting for your kind response.

Thanks and regards,

It is the principal employer's liability to provide the safety PPE for the workmen to work on the premises. Once you have issued it, make sure that they enter the shop floor with proper PPE.

Inform your security to ensure that all employees are entering the factory with proper PPE. If they are not wearing it, they are not allowed to enter.

In our factory, we don't allow civil workers and other contractors without wearing safety shoes.

Dear Sir,

Thank you for your response. We have already provided the same information, but some individuals are not wearing the required safety gear. If we do not enforce this rule, the Head of the department tries to confront me about the issue, and they are more senior than I am. This situation is causing confusion for me.

Ensuring Employee Safety in the Workplace

This is the place where you are appointed to work in a diplomatic way. Production people always want manpower to run the plant. They never bother about employees' safety and requirements. If something happens to them, they will just feel sorry for a minute and go back to their routine work with a replaced person. But you have to handle all legal and social issues for that injured.

To avoid these issues, we have to think proactively and bring discipline in a diplomatic way. There are several posters available on the internet about safety. Download them, redesign them as per your local language, print them, and paste them across the plant. Download some factory accident videos from the internet and play them before the start of the shift in a training room. These types of strategies have worked perfectly in my plant too.

Management always supports production, as money comes from them to run the business. But we have to take alternative steps to ensure the employees' safety, health, and welfare.

All the best.

It is also effective to start a safety promotional program at the office/factory. The person who will give the highest number of observations on safety will be rewarded. Good practices will be rewarded. Start a good housekeeping award, zone-wise, or department-wise. Safe place award. No observation or incident award.
