if female employees has completed 80 days of service before proceeding on maternity leave than she is entitle for 84 days maternity leave.you can show maternity leave(ML) in register and make a payment on monthly basis as you are making for other tyupoe of leave like EL/CL.
if some one take AL for 40 days how you will make the payment same way you make the payment

Maternity benefit is not monthly payment as said by Malikjs.Prenatal benefit for forty two days shall be paid in advance.Post natal 42 days shall be paid in 48 hours.

As on today as per Maternity Benefit Act it is 84 days not 26 weeks.It is only proposal to give 26 weeks.But some companies are giving 26 ,weeks.
