Help! How Do I Fix Having Two UAN Numbers and Use My Old One?

Sahil HR
Hello All, I am an aspiring HR professional seeking help from you all! I joined a company in December 2015 and have been working there since. I previously worked for 2.10 years and had a UAN number from that company. Now, due to a human error, two UAN numbers have been generated. Firstly, this shouldn't be possible as I have only one mobile number. Also, I haven't activated it, and I don't want to. All my PF earnings from the second (current) company are going here. Please advise on what I should do? I just want to use my old UAN.

Steps to Resolve Multiple UAN Numbers Issue:

🔍 Contact EPF Helpdesk:
- Reach out to the EPF helpdesk and explain the situation regarding the two UAN numbers generated in error. Provide them with all relevant details such as your name, previous UAN number, current UAN number, and any other information they may require.

🔍 Request UAN Merge:
- Request the EPF helpdesk to merge the two UAN numbers into one, preferably retaining your old UAN number as per your preference. They will guide you on the process and any documentation required.

🔍 Follow EPFO Guidelines:
- Follow any specific guidelines provided by the Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) regarding merging UAN numbers and the necessary steps to resolve such discrepancies.

🔍 Update Employer:
- Inform your current employer about the situation and provide them with the updated UAN number once the merge process is completed. This ensures that your PF contributions are correctly linked to the consolidated UAN.

🔍 Regularly Check Status:
- Regularly check the status of the UAN merge process and follow up with the EPF helpdesk if there are any delays or issues in resolving the multiple UAN numbers.

By following these steps and actively engaging with the EPF authorities, you can effectively resolve the issue of having two UAN numbers and ensure that your PF contributions are correctly managed under the preferred UAN.
