The Need for Fair Labor Laws in India

On one side, we have Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) where laborers enjoy benefits without fear—overtime, no proper timings, and sometimes wasting time playing cards. On the other side, we have unprotected labor, such as security guards and salesmen of small firms, who have no security whatsoever.

The protection of labor laws does not exist in practical terms for them. It is costly to litigate, and labor officers are often indifferent. Balanced labor protection is needed where companies can fire when necessary but must be fair in their dealings. It should not be mere lip service that labor is an important resource.

Laborers are important and should be treated well as such.
