Dear members,

A firm has fewer than 10 employees, but this firm wants to get registered in ESI. Please suggest whether this firm can get ESI registration despite having fewer than 10 employees.

No, the firm cannot be covered under the ESI Act voluntarily unless it has 10 or more employees. Under PF, voluntary coverage is allowed but not under the ESI Act.
