How to Handle a Job Switch When Your Employer Won't Provide a Salary Slip?

laxmikant.joshi
Hi seniors, I am working in a small organization with less than 10 employees. Now, I want to switch to a new company, but my current employer is refusing to issue me a salary slip as I receive my salary in cash. The only evidence I have now is my bank statement showing the monthly deposits of my salary. What should I do if my new company requests a salary slip, but my current employer only provides an experience letter and refuses to issue a salary slip? I have worked in this organization for 2 years, but now they are refusing to provide a salary slip. Please help me.

Dear Lakshmikanth,

If you are in Tamil Nadu State, you can contact your previous company's labor officer. As per TN Labor Law, every employer is liable to give a salary slip to every employee.

Thank you.

You don't really need to worry. Please don't get into a situation where your current employer begins to avoid you. Bank statements are valid proof of salary. Even the appointment letter, if you have one, can be used as salary proof—though some companies don't consider this. When you request your company for an experience letter, ask them to include the last salary you received. Many small companies provide a single letter summarizing the experience (worked from-to, designation, and last salary drawn). All the best.

Regards, TS
