Absconding from an MNC: Can You Rejoin the Company Later?

Mandar Jotkar
If someone absconds from an MNC company, is it possible for that person to rejoin the company? Please guide me, Senior.

Dear Mandar Jotkar,

If the absconder's services have not already been terminated by the employer after following the procedural formalities, he can request for posting subject to the discretion of the employer.

Yes, an absconder can join the same company unless and until his services were terminated due to unauthorized absenteeism following the due course of law. If no steps were taken by the company, then he will be deemed to be in continuous service.

Dear Mandar,

It completely depends on the organization's HR policies. Many companies would not prefer to hire an employee who absconds without giving a proper resignation or reason and even stops picking up calls. Kindly get in touch with the respective HR and seek clarification. It may also depend on the employee's previous records and performance.

Hope this helps!

What Umakanth said is largely true, but it also depends on the time period whether unauthorized absence tantamounts to abandonment of the job. In his own accord, it is decided on a case-to-case basis.
