Handling Employee Suicide: What Steps Should HR Take in This Heartbreaking Situation?

MV Venkatsh
I am working in the manufacturing industry as a Senior HR Executive. One employee died by suicide due to personal reasons at his home after work. He had been with our company for about 7 years, with his last drawn CTC being 15000 per month. He was eligible for PF and ESI. What actions need to be taken in this scenario? Kindly describe it briefly.

You can help in the way of getting/arranging EDLI benefits, pension for deceased employees' legal heirs/parents from EPF, and gratuity payment.

Sir, in respect of ESI benefits, any family member of a deceased insured person can claim reimbursement of funeral expenses - maximum Rs. 10,000 - from the concerned Branch Office of ESIC. The claimant family member of the deceased insured person can contact the branch office along with the Permanent Identity Card and the original death certificate of the covered employee.
