You have not told about the nature of your establishment. If it is a factory, the Factories Act and if it is a commercial establishment, the Shops and Establishment Act contain the provisions for earned leave. The said provisions lay down the criteria for eligibility, accrual of maximum leave and calculation of leave. However, the company can frame a policy, laying down procedures for availing such leave with freedom to incorporate more beneficial terms in the policy. In the instant case, an employee can take EL continuously subject to the maximum number of days of EL at credit in his EL account, depending up on the purpose and circumstances. For example, if some avails EL on sickness grounds, he can resume duty only when he is fit medically and you cannot say that I sanction only four days leave as his fitness is a medical condition beyond employer's control.

In factory act there is no regulation on different types of leaves, only that workers will get 1 days leave for every 20,days worked in the previous year. However, if you have more than 50 employees at the plant, then standing orders apply. So see the model standing orders that apply to you and follow the rules described in it
