Balancing Work and Studies: Can Employers Set Rules for Employees in School?

Hello All,

I have a query related to employees who pursue their studies (Graduation/Post Graduation) during their employment period. Is there any clause for the same or can we add any clause related to that? Please suggest!

What is the problem if an employee studies during his employment period? As long as it does not affect company work, the company need not interfere.

Many companies themselves provide educational loans and subsidies for acquiring relevant qualifications.

Actually, organizations should encourage employees to pursue higher studies. If the course or program is relevant to an employee's work, it can help them put in better efforts. Organizations can provide reimbursement for the course fees for such relevant courses, with a requirement to obtain approval from the functional head before starting the course.

@Meghana N., thanks for the reply. However, the concern is that we recruit freshers, and in most cases, they are either pursuing or going to enroll themselves for studies. Our management would like to establish a policy for this situation. We aim to include a clause in our appointment letter and are seeking a suitable format for the same.

Getting educated is an ordinary right of every citizen; nay, it could be linked to the Fundamental Right to Life and Right to Freedom. No employer can interfere or frustrate such a basic right unless the continuing education adversely affects the efficiency or performance of the employee.
