How to Check LPG Cylinder Expiry Dates to Prevent Accidents and Ensure Safety

NKTiwari
Dear All

Something important I would like to share to all. please make use of it.

Have u ever heard about LPG cylinder's expire date ….

How to find LPG cylinder's expiry date?

Very important information.

Do you know that there is an expiry date (physical life) for LPG

cylinders?

Expired Cylinders are not safe for use and may cause accidents. In this

regard please be cautious at the time of accepting any LPG cylinder from

the vendor.

Here is how we can check the expiry of LPG cylinders:

On one of three side stems of the cylinder, the expiry date is coded

alpha

numerically as follows A or B or C or D and some two digit number

following

this e.g. D06.

The alphabets stand for quarters -

A for March (First Qtr)

B for June (Second Qtr)

C for Sept (Third Qtr)

D for December (Fourth Qtr)

The digits stand for the year till it is valid.

Hence D06 would mean December qtr of 2006.

Share this message with everyone you know, UR kind cooperation will save

life of many people and create awareness among the public.

Please do not accept the cylinder if the date has already expired.

'A' stands for the first quarter ie January to March and

'07' stands for the present year 2007.

We all were still confused with the terms used above.

A-07 indicates the expiry life of cylinder and due for hydro testing.

This cylinder should not be used after the first quarter and should be returned to the gas dealer.

Expired Cylinders are not safe for use and may cause accidents.

ALL concerned should take necessary steps.

Thanks

Dear Tiwari,

Thank you for the information. Could you please inform me if the expired cylinders will be reused after hydro testing? If so, will the new expiry date be stamped on the cylinder again? If yes, how can this information be identified? Your response would be greatly appreciated.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Dear Murthy,

Whatever the case may be, before the cylinders are ready for distribution, the expiry date must be coded alphanumerically on one of the three side stems of the cylinder. This coding is essential to comply with statutory and legal requirements. If there is no code, it indicates that the cylinder is faulty.

Same kind of information is also available for tires. The expiry date of the tire is put on the tire. Check your tires before you buy and while in use. The validity of the tire is only 4 years after the date of manufacturing. Thereafter, the tires may burst.

How to find out whether your tire has expired? Check for a stamp like this - (*2603*). There is an asterisk at the beginning and at the end of this serial number. The first two numbers, 26, will tell which week of the year it was manufactured. This will go up to 52, as one year has 52 weeks. The last two numbers represent the year of manufacture. Therefore, *2603* shows that the said tire was manufactured in the 26th week of the year 2003. *2699* indicates that the tire was made in the 26th week of 1999.

Check all your tires for safety purposes. Do not use expired tires. They are likely to burst, especially when running in hot weather, because the rubber component may have hardened and cracked.
