Fewer Employees After Split: Do I Still Need to Pay Provident Fund Contributions?

PragatiVisions
Currently, we have 20 employees, including security (contract employees). We are planning to split our operations into two companies. The company under which I am currently running operations will now have only 7-8 employees. Do I still need to continue paying them PF?

Once the company is enrolled in any statutory schemes such as ESI/EPF, even if the number of employees reduces to 7-8, as you mentioned, it is mandatory to continue. Even if there is only 1 employee, these enrollments must still be maintained.

If the employees are already a part of PF, then irrespective of the applicability, the employer has to get enrolled in PF. For any further information on statutory compliances, please visit: http://stacowiki.in/en/
