How to Handle Overlapping Employment Dates When Switching Jobs?

Employer Date Overlap Issue

One of my friends is experiencing an employer date overlap issue. He worked with X organization (first company) for 15 months. X company is a small consultancy outsourced to the topmost service-based company. He was then placed in the biggest banking MNC, Y company. He was relieved from X company on Dec-2-2013, whereas his Date of Joining (DOJ) in Y company is Nov-25-2013. He worked with Y company without any problems for 20 months and has now been working with Z company for 8 months without any discrepancies.

He has now received an opportunity to work with the world's biggest product-based company. The company has raised questions about the overlapping dates between X and Y companies, i.e., being relieved on Dec-2-2013 and joining on Nov-25-2013, leading to an overlap of 7 days.

Please note that X company's client relieved him on Nov-24 without any records; only the client manager knows about his relieving. He has already approached X company to change the relieving date, but the manager is not agreeing to the amendments.

I would appreciate your valuable suggestions on how to resolve this issue.

Thanks in advance.

X company may have orally informed him on 23rd Nov., but due to the unavailability of signing authority, the official letter was only issued on 2nd Dec.

Seniors,

Orally, he was relieved on Nov 24, whereas the date mentioned in the papers is Dec 2nd. The new company is not allowing him to join without clean and clear relieving papers.

I need your valuable input on how to approach the X company consultancy manager to get this issue sorted out.

Tons of thanks!

Regards,
Sunil
