How Should I Handle My Salary Being Withheld During My Notice Period?

soujanya.kallepu@gmail.com
I am Soujanya, working as a Reservation Associate at The Golkonda Hotel, Hyderabad. I submitted my resignation on 24/02/16 with a one-month notice period, and my last day will be on 24/03/16. My HR team has kept my pay on hold because I gave my resignation at the end of the month. I have not received my February salary up to this date. Upon inquiring, they mentioned that I will receive it in April after my clearance (February pay along with March pay). Please advise me on how to proceed.

Regards,
Soujanya

Hi Soujanya,

I hope they would have kept you on hold and will clear 2 months' wages as well as any outstanding amounts for Full and Final settlement. No need to worry. I hope it will be cleared soon.

It is the practice in HR functions. Once the resignation is submitted, the organization may hold the salary until the notice period of the employee is completed. The same can be settled as full and final payment after the relieving formalities are over.

But why are they not releasing my February month pay? They are supposed to hold the March month pay, right?

Please advise.

Of course, it is at the discretion of the management. If you want money for any urgency, you may request them in writing to release an advance pay advising them to adjust the same in the full and final settlement. The management may or may not consider it. Otherwise, you have to bear it until the full and final settlement is arrived at.
