Struggling with English Skills in HR: How Can I Improve While Balancing Work?

In these days, I am very frustrated. The problem is that my English is very poor. I want to improve my English skills. I can understand English well, but I feel hesitation when I speak English, and my vocabulary is very limited. Currently, I am focusing on improving my English speaking and vocabulary. Sometimes I feel confident that I can easily achieve this, but other times I find it very challenging, especially when I read newspapers.

Everyone tells me that being in HR, it is crucial to have good English skills to succeed. I am interested in joining English classes, but unfortunately, the timing of the institute does not suit me due to my office hours. I aspire to grow in my career, but I believe it is impossible without improving my English proficiency.

Please provide me with any suggestions or advice.

Hey BUDDY, Nothing comes without hard work. I suggest you start reading the DC newspaper daily. Read it quickly, prepare your introduction, stand in front of the mirror, and look into your eyes because eye contact is very important these days. Practice these and see the results.

Like Varun said, it is just a matter of hard work. Please read books that will constantly help you build your English and also boost your confidence. Read books by authors like Shiv Khera or Carnegie.

Just be positive about yourself and understand one thing: nothing is impossible; hard work always yields good results.

Hi Raj,

While reading the newspaper, have a dictionary handy so that you can improve your vocabulary. Also, you can understand the contextual usage of the words. Always remember one thing: fear is innate, so first try to get rid of it as you are not committing any crime if you speak with a grammatical error. Don't worry too much about people who make fun of you if you make a mistake while speaking.

In addition to reading the newspaper, also follow English news to work on your pronunciation.
