Is My Experience at My Dad's Hospital Legally Valid for a New Job Application?

happyshark
I have been working in my father's hospital for the last four years as a specialist. He didn't pay me a regular monthly salary; rather, my payment depended on the amount of caseload I handled. Therefore, I do not have a uniform payment pattern from my dad to my bank account.

Now I am applying for a job in a hospital in another city. Will this experience be considered legally valid? First of all, it will be from my dad, and also there is no fixed payment pattern. However, it was a full-time job with emergency duties, and I was given no leniency in any manner.

I appreciate your honesty. Very seldom would you find somebody who would ask for an opinion in this regard. I presume your dad is more of a strict businessman, and hence your frustration with regard to your job is quite obvious.

Filing Returns and Income Documentation

Do you file your returns? If yes, what's the income you show and in what form? A hospital is an establishment, and hence all records have to be statutorily maintained. So, salaries being disbursed to all the employees would also be recorded in some register (it's an audit requirement). Even for financial purposes, these details would be mentioned somewhere. Check it out.

Consultant Doctor Payment Practices

By the way, I presume that you are a doctor. In most hospitals, consultant doctors are paid in a similar fashion. So, there is nothing to worry about. I am sure your prospective employer would be well aware of such service/consultancy arrangements and hence should not be a worry for you.

Good Luck.

Hi, thanks for the reply. I do file tax returns. The amount I receive from my father is shown as salary/doctor's fees per case. However, as I stay home only, I don't have any other expenses. I am concurrently setting up my own hospital in a nearby city for the last 3 years, and whatever I have received as a salary, I am spending on my setup. It's not running at a full operational pace yet, and technically, I have been in a loss for the last 3 years as the setup is still in process.
