Navigating Job Offers While Pregnant: Should I Tell My New Employer Before Joining?

pk.kiit
Hi, I have an offer from a software MNC organization. I have to join this company in April 2016, and at that time, I will be 5 months pregnant. I have neither informed them about my pregnancy nor have they asked me about it during the face-to-face rounds of the tech and HR interviews. Should I inform them before my joining or after joining? I can continue to work until June as my expected due date is in July. Is there any possibility that they can cancel my offer if I inform them now? Please advise me on what to do as I have already resigned from my current organization.

From my point of view, you should have informed HR about your pregnancy during the HR interview itself. I sense that you hid this information because you feared it might affect your chances of getting the job due to your pregnancy. Therefore, my advice is to please contact the HR person who conducted the interview, disclose your pregnancy, and have an open conversation about why you chose not to reveal this initially.

Yes, there is a possibility that the job offer could be revoked by citing the undisclosed pregnancy as a breach of trust.

With regards,

Hiding such information will have a negative impact on the mind of your employer. You must inform the company at the earliest and face the risk of them finding some excuse to avoid hiring you. Sometimes they may be sympathetic and accept you, as at least you have told the truth belatedly though.

In the strict legal sense, this may not be necessary; but, morally, it would be advisable to make a disclosure.
