Interview Preparation Tips
You are all prepared to face the interview, and of course, your heart must be racing. Avoid these common mistakes that you may knowingly or unknowingly make, which can lessen your chances of selection.
Punctuality and Preparation
Be on time or arrive 5-10 minutes before the scheduled time. Being too early or late does not look good. Carry at least four copies of your updated resume, each well tucked in a folder (at least carry one). Have a notepad and blank white papers in your bag. Bring your pen along with you, and ensure it is functional.
Dress Code and Personal Grooming
Be well-dressed but not overdressed. Never wear a 3-piece suit with a tie and bow. Clean your shoes with a napkin, not using your trousers, and ensure they are polished. Never wear white socks.
Company Knowledge and Etiquette
Remember the name of the company where you have applied (amazingly, many people forget it). Pronounce the name of the company correctly. Wash your face and eyes before the interview. Keep your phone switched off or on silent; vibration mode is distracting. If you wear a wristwatch, it should be working and showing the correct time.
Avoid Unprofessional Habits
No smoking, chewing tobacco, or using mouth fresheners at least 30 minutes before the interview.
